Citation Share

Your share of the links to you and your tracked competitors, counting each answer once per brand.

Definition

Citation share compares how often AI answers link to your site with how often they link to the sites of the competitors you track. Each answer counts once for every brand whose site it cites, however many of that brand's pages it links to, and your share is your count divided by the total across you and your tracked competitors. It answers a different question from citation rate, the share of all answers that cite you at all: you can be cited in only 10% of answers and still hold most of the citation share when your competitors are cited even less. It is not the share of all citations either, which counts every cited site, tracked or not. In DiscoveredBy, citation share counts the same domains as citation rate, your project's domain and each active competitor's domain, so the share and the rates beside it never disagree.

Example

Over 200 answers, 30 cite your site, 50 cite Competitor A's and 20 cite Competitor B's, and one answer citing three of Competitor A's pages still counts once for A. That is 100 brand-answer pairs in all, so your citation share is 30 of 100, or 30%.
