Free site audit

Audit any website’s technical SEO, free.

Enter a site and watch its audit fill in as each page is checked against 238 technical SEO rules in 17 sections. No account needed.

25 pages free, 100 pages and the report by email.

What you get

Results while you watch, and more for an email address.

Free, no email

Up to 25 pages

Enter the site and the audit starts, or waits its turn in line, and its results page fills in as it runs: a health score, issue priorities, a site report of all 238 rules, and a report for every page it checked.

With a verified email

Up to 100 pages, and the report by email

Enter the 6-digit code we email you, and the audit is upgraded, once, to a new crawl of up to 100 pages. Each verified address gets the report when it finishes.

What it checks

238 rules in 17 sections.

Every page is loaded in a browser as DiscoveredByBot, and the JavaScript SEO section compares the raw HTML it delivers with the rendered page, so you see what crawlers that do not run JavaScript miss.

FAQ

About the free audit

How it handles your data is in the privacy policy.

How long does a free audit take?

In our own tests on a typical small site, 25 pages took 2 to 3 minutes and 100 pages 8 to 9 minutes. When other free audits are running, yours runs alongside them, which can make it take twice as long, or waits in line until one finishes and then starts by itself. A site with slow pages takes longer too: each page is loaded in a browser, three pages at a time, with up to 90 seconds for each page. The results page fills in as pages are checked, and shows its place in line while it waits.

What does the free audit crawl?

It starts at the home page of the site you enter and follows any redirect of that page, then stays on the final host: another subdomain is another site. From there it follows the site’s internal links, its sitemaps and the canonical and alternate URLs its pages declare, up to 25 URLs in all, the home page included.

Does it follow robots.txt?

Yes. Every page is requested as DiscoveredByBot/1.0 (+https://discoveredby.ai), and robots.txt is read again before each URL: a URL it disallows for DiscoveredByBot is not fetched. Requests to common analytics and tag-manager services are blocked during the render, so an audit does not add page views to tools such as Google Analytics.

Who can see the results?

Anyone who enters the same site sees the same results until they are deleted: a site holds one free audit at a time. The results page asks search engines not to index it, and it never shows who asked for the audit or any email address.

How long are the results kept?

The crawl data is kept while a crawl waits or runs, then deleted 48 hours after the crawl whose results the audit shows finishes. If the first crawl saves no page, for example because robots.txt disallows the home page, its data is deleted at once. A new free audit of the site can start once the data is deleted.

What do I get for verifying my email?

On the results page, enter your email address and we send you a 6-digit code. Enter the code, and the audit is upgraded, once, to a new crawl of up to 100 pages, and every verified address gets the report by email when that crawl finishes. Once an audit has had its upgrade, verifying an address gets that address the report. The “Send me occasional product updates” box is unticked unless you tick it.

Is this the same as the site audit in DiscoveredBy?

It is the same crawler with the same 238 rules. In a DiscoveredBy project on Starter, Growth and Pro, the site audit crawls as many URLs as you choose, up to 1,000, keeps your newest 10 audits, lets owners and editors record a decision on each issue, and feeds the page issue queue.
