Shown Rate

How often Google showed an AI answer (an AI Overview, or an AI Mode answer) when your prompt was searched.

Definition

Google does not show an AI Overview for every search. When DiscoveredBy runs a prompt on Google AI Overviews or Google AI Mode and Google shows no AI answer, the run is recorded as its own outcome, "no AI answer shown", rather than as an answer that ignored you. Those runs are left out of visibility, mention and citation rates, which only count answers that exist, and are reported instead as the shown rate: runs that showed an AI answer divided by all runs. A chat engine such as Claude always answers, and so do ChatGPT (app) and Gemini (app), so the shown rate is measured for the two Google engines only.

Example

AI Overview shown on 12 of 20 runs (60%): on the other 8 runs Google showed no AI Overview for that prompt.
