Track how Gemini talks about your brand
How we collect Gemini
Gemini (app)
DataForSEO, a licensed data provider, puts the prompt to gemini.google.com in a session that is not signed in and returns the answer the page shows.
Included in: Starter, Growth, Pro
Gemini (API)
Our own call to Google’s Gemini API with Google Search grounding, with the target’s location written into the prompt.
Included in: Free, Starter, Growth, Pro
What we record for each answer
- Brand mentions and sentiment for both, as two separate engines in every filter and breakdown.
- Citations: the web pages among Gemini (app)’s sources, and Gemini (API)’s grounding sources, attributed to the page Google’s redirect lands on.
- Gemini (API): the searches Google reports behind its answer.
- Gemini (app): web search, images and tables, with Google product and Maps place links counted as shopping and local businesses rather than citations.
What to know
- The two variants rank citations differently, so an average position is not comparable between them.
- Gemini (app) runs no persona variant, no Chinese variant and no prompt over 2,000 characters once encoded.
- Gemini (app) reports no searches, so its fan-out is not applicable.
- When a Gemini (app) answer cannot be read, the run fails; the day’s failed runs are retried automatically at 03:00, 05:00, 09:00 and 17:00 UTC, and a run still failed after the 17:00 retry stays failed for that day.
- Gemini (API) is an API output, and its answer to a prompt can differ from the one Gemini (app) shows.
